A long time ago in the cold waters
off the coast of Australia lived a small frog called Bilbo. Bilbo had explored
every inch of every ocean in the world, the Arctic, the Tasman and even the
Pacific. He had brought back souvenirs from his adventures, swirly, sparkly
shells, colourful diamond rocks and even a tooth from the mighty 12 foot
long shark. Soon Bilbo became bored and tired of the same old ocean, so one
glorious day hyped up Bilbo set out to explore the land.
Bilbo swam
as fast as he possibly could over to the edge of the ocean. Cautiously Bilbo
crept up to the edge, took one step and ‘plop’
the short stubby frog fell flat on his little slimy face.
Covered with sand Bilbo reluctantly
sat up as he was crowded by seagulls and turtles. Bilbo stood up very wobbly,
pushed through all the seagulls and turtles and sprung into the cold ocean of
Australia. Feeling very embarrassed he swam back to his underwater colony. All
of a sudden ‘kerplonk’,
Bilbo had just wriggled into the king of the ocean... The Shark. Poor little
Bilbo cowered in fear as he was being towered by a gigantic frog eating
carnivore. The shark grabbed Bilbo by his tummy, squeezed him hard and yelled
"Who dares bump into me like that?" in a stern angry voice. Shaking
Bilbo held his head up high and proudly stated "My name is Bilbo and I was
just trying to explore the land." The shark looked very puzzled by this
statement. No one had ever spoken to him like that before.
"A sea creature exploring the
land, I've never heard of such thing,”
beamed the shark giggling under his breath. Proudly Bilbo interrupted his silly
laughter and yelled " I have explored every inch of every ocean of the
world and I do not intend to stop there.”
The shark was most annoyed now but he admired the frog’s
determination to explore the land.
Wickedly the shark showed his big
rows of sharp teeth to Bilbo and snarled at him "Did you have any success?”
Frightened Bilbo told the whole story about how he fell over and woke up
surrounded by seagulls and turtles. Thankfully the shark let out a huge sigh of
relief." I don't want you ever going out there again, “bellowed
the shark as he turned and swam away. Sad little Bilbo swam back home.
Day after day Bilbo lay on his spunky
coral bed with the words that shark had said echoing in his head. After Bilbo
got sick of lying in his bed one day he set out to find the shark who had
yelled at him to never go on land again.
One day passed ... No luck. Two days
passed ... No luck. But on the third day just as Bilbo’s
flippers were all red and were about to come off, he spotted the large
ferocious shark having a conversation with an animal which shark referred to as
Tiger.
Tiger had massive sharp teeth much
like sharks but not as many. He had an orange body with long curved, black
stripes that fell over his back. A long noodle like object sat on his bottom
trailing across the ground. They both had a stern look in their eyes and by the
way they both looked worried, Bilbo knew that it was about him. Sneakily Bilbo
tiptoed up behind shark and lightly tapped him on the shoulder.
Shark jumped as high as a kite and
then slowly floated down in a pool of bubbles. Bilbo had no hesitation in
saying what he went there for. “Shark, I
demand you let me walk on land and explore the wild life of Australia.”
Shark had a faint smirk on his face as he whispered " I'm afraid you will have to ask Tiger.”
Tiny Bilbo stared up at Tiger who was sat upright on the dry sand. " I'm
Bilbo,” he said
quivering. Tiger bent right down so that her nose was an inch off touching the
cold waves that crashed on the shore. " Yes you would like to explore the
land... Sure you can ". A huge grin came over Bilbo’s
face. Alas Shark and Tiger held up their hands and waved them all about. The
water started to twirl and Bilbo started to go up and all of a sudden short
webbed feet shot out of his stomach. Then he fell down onto the hot sand right
next to Tiger. Then he took his first step.
He had done! it Bilbo had taken his
first step on land. Without hesitating Bilbo raced off to the jungle forgetting
to thank Tiger and Shark, but he knew they would all meet again.
